Art Fin My first listen of this unsettling 7" disturbed me in the same way that hearing Joy Division for the first time did. On second listen I realized that this is exactly the type of music I have been waiting to hear. It's not for everyone but it's for me. I'm surprised this band is from Cleveland, Ohio and not from Manchester, UK. This would have made a fine Factory Records release in 1979. Favorite track: Elephant Men.

about

Pleasure Leftists - Elephant Men b/w Not Over 7" (KW-027)

In a music universe over-saturated with post-punk zombies, Cleveland's Pleasure Leftists have forged a sound all their own. Their 2011 debut EP on Fan Death established the band as a contender in the world of gloomy thumping, but they are set apart by an aggressive rhythm section and haunting incantations that can only be characterized as an ecstatic celebration of the human voice. This 7" features two new songs that push the limits of a doomsday worldview's pop sensitivity and proves Pleasure Leftists to be one of the premier contemporary post-punk bands in the world.
